Fall Posters from Nutrition Investigator

Two brief notes. First, a recent issue of Science (vol. 330, pg 1621 17 Dec 2010) stated that one of the top 10 discoveries of the past decade is that inflammation is a major cause of chronic diseases associated with aging. As Nutrition Investigator readers like you have known for many years, reducing stress, avoiding transfats, eating fish oil, and getting regular exercise can dramatically reduce chronic inflammation, a major cause of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's, and much more.

Second, each year my nutrition class does supervised research reviews of recent issues of interest. The topics covered this year included:
....optimum dosage and value of vitamin K, vitamin D, coffee, yoga, DHA (esp. during pregnancy) and fish oil, green tea, soy, ginger, yogurt (esp. probiotic Lactobacillus acidophilus), sunlight, carbohydrates, and the new wonder compound in avocadoes, mannoheptulose.
.... pros and cons and useful intakes of dairy (including raw milk), soy, bran/fiber, whole grains, sweeteners in sodas, and a non-artifical sweetener used throughout Europe that is much safer than table sugar, xylitol.
.... a novel immunostimulant that may be helpful in fighting cancer, AHCC
....and advice on how to help children get enough exercise.
Posters and topics are found at this link.

Reduce your inflammation by remembering how wonderful it is to be conscious!
